Several tests through this past week have yielded some unexpected results. Above we see the slightly feathered edges. Through test shooting photos of this image projected onto a white shirt I have found that the quality of a projected image is very poor. The photos lose so much resolution when projected on to a shirt then photographed the desired illusion is not even slightly achieved. This is shown in the image on the left below.
Before this image could even be achieved a problem was encountered. When photographed, the projected image would appear as a rainbow on the screen(above right image). This was solved by shooting with a slow shutter speed. This is another obstacle to get over in the journey to achieve a sharp image of the projected hallway on the shirt. With a slow shutter speed, any movement turns out blurry in a photo. This makes it much harder to get a sharp photo. With the terrible quality of the image projected other routes may have to be explored for this idea to be fully developed. The model must be as still as can be and I must find the best quality projector available. If you have any suggestions for this feel free to leave them in the comments below. I would love you hear from you.
Photoshop is an option, however Photoshop should be a last resort when or if nothing else is possible when it comes to capturing the desired effect in camera.
Below is a contact sheet of all images shot during the projector shoot.
